Why is this guy famous?
I've never understood Japanese "variety" television. Each show invariably involves a bizarre "comedy" act with slapstick visual humour that makes more sense than the Japanese script/lyrics that go with it.
There's a new guy on the scene by the name of Yoshio Kojima, who came up with an act in which he sings and dances in his underwear. Two catch phrases heard in junior high circles across the country are now "sonna ni kankei nai" ("That's got nothing to do with it") and O-pa-piiiiiii! (Ocean Pacific Peace).
I can't find his TV debut on youtube anymore, but here's some more Kojima rediculousness. Get it while it lasts; he's bound to be a nobody again within a year.
